SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks via a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for a number of things based on the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for pretty much anything - you could install software or restart specific services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your PC is running a different OS as well. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though many service providers change it for security reasons.

In the same place, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you can easily enter the password that you'd like to use, as it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as frequently as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Web Hosting
If you buy a new virtual private server from our company, it'll provide full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything using an SSH console. The function comes by default with all plans, so you will not have to enable or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up soon after you get it and the instant you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect using the server’s primary IP address and start working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions with regards to the commands you can use. You'll have full root access, so you can set up and run any application which can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software running on it.
